Tatiana Pino

Tatiana is a Suzuki instructor in Books 1, 2, and 3. She’s a board-certified music therapist, holding Bachelors degrees in Cello Performance from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and Clinical Psychology from Santo Tomas University (Bogotá, Colombia). Tatiana is currently finishing her Masters in Music Therapy from Loyola University New Orleans. She has played with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Cundinamarca, National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, and the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra.
Her teaching experience includes being faculty at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music Preparatory School, Inter-American University of Puerto Rico (inaugural Cello instructor and curriculum chair), New Orleans String Project, and 2011 Greater New Orleans Area Suzuki Summer Camp. She is currently teaching at the Loyola University New Orleans Preparatory School and offers cello lessons at her private studio. Instruction and teaching have always been part of her life. Her focus is on the individual student’s learning process, providing the musical experiences that allow children, teens, and adults to enjoy playing while developing musicality and outstanding technique.
Two of her fondest memories were playing for Yo-Yo Ma during his New Orleans visit and being a soloist with the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra.

Philip von Maltzahn

Cellist Philip von Maltzahn studied at Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music, where his principal teachers were Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi , Janos Starker, and Steven Doane. He was the cellist of the Degas Quartet from 2002 until 2009, and Assistant Principal Cello of Greensboro Symphony from 2006 until 2011. Philip has taught cello and coached chamber music at the Eastman School of Music, Syracuse University, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Furman University, and Appalachian State University. He taught traditional strings and chamber music at the Levine School of Music in Washington, DC from 2011 until 2013. He recently moved to New Orleans with his wife and is an active freelance musician in the Crescent City’s vibrant musical culture.

Karen Ray

KAREN RAY appears as a cellist in New Orleans with the Windsor Chamber Players and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. In her native Pacific Northwest Karen plays with the Oregon Coast Music Festival and has appeared on the series Chamber Music San Juan. She lived for six years in Germany, where she was a member of the Siegerland Orchestra and also played regularly at the Köln Opera. Karen appears frequently as soloist and chamber musician on numerous recital series in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast Area. In the early music field Karen played the medieval vielle for many years with the ensemble New Orleans Musica da Camera and has also appeared on concerts in the Pacific Northwest and France. She teaches cello at the University of New Orleans, and, with graduate degrees in Musicology and Music Theory as well as Cello Performance, has been an asset to a number of other university faculties as well, including the University of North Texas, Tulane and Loyola.
